Cheaper Wix Alternatives for Small Businesses (2026)

Wix is popular, but it isn't cheap for a simple site. Here's what a year really costs on the alternatives, renewals included.

Cover: Cheaper than Wix.

What's a cheaper alternative to Wix? For a simple business site on your own domain, two options cost far less than Wix Light (about $213 a year, billed yearly):

Hostinger is cheaper upfront on a long prepaid plan, and Google Sites costs nothing if you can live with its basic designs.

Compare the yearly total and the renewal price, not the headline monthly number.

Wix is a good website builder.

But look at your yearly bill.

Wix's cheapest plan without ads, Light, is $17.77 a month billed yearly. That's about $213 a year before any apps, and selling online starts on Core at $29.77 a month.

For a local business whose website mostly says "here's what we do, here's how to reach us," that's a lot.

Here are the cheaper alternatives, with prices checked on each pricing page in October 2026. Prices change, so each section links to the official pricing page: check it before you decide. (Wix's own: wix.com/plans.)

Now the details, including the catches.

1. SiteNeuro: built for you, $39 a year

SiteNeuro skips the template. It builds a one-page site from your Google listing: your reviews, photos, services, hours and phone number.

Why it's cheaper: Essential is $39 a year on your own domain, with hosting and SSL included. You buy the domain separately at a registrar.

What you get:

The catch: it's a single page, not a multi-page site with a store. If you want to design every detail yourself, a builder like Wix will feel more familiar.

Best for: local service businesses and professionals with good Google reviews.

See it for yourself: build a free demo from your Google listing (no card needed), or see what's in the Essential plan.

Full disclosure: SiteNeuro is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. The prices for every option are on their own pricing pages, linked below.

2. WordPress.com: cheap and flexible

Why it's cheaper: Personal is $4 a month billed yearly ($48 a year), with a free domain for the first year. Premium is $8 a month billed yearly.

What you get: a huge choice of themes, excellent blogging and room to grow.

The catch: more settings to learn than Wix. Monthly plans cost more ($9 a month for Personal) and don't include the free domain.

Best for: owners who plan to blog and don't mind learning a few settings.

3. Hostinger: lowest upfront, if you commit

Why it's cheaper: Premium starts at $2.99 a month with a free domain for the first year, and AI tools help draft the site.

The catch: that price is for a 48-month plan paid upfront ($143.52), and it renews at $10.99 a month. Over the long run it's not as cheap as it looks.

Best for: owners happy to prepay for four years.

4. Google Sites: free, basic

Why it's cheaper: it's a free tool with a Google account, and Google's help pages explain how to connect a custom domain you buy elsewhere.

The catch: very limited designs and features. It works, but it rarely looks like a polished business site.

Best for: a temporary page while you decide.

When staying on Wix is the better deal

Don't switch just to save money if:

Switching takes time. If your Wix site brings in customers, the cheapest move might be staying put. Compare Wix's plans, including the store plans, on wix.com/plans.

Price the switch in hours, not just dollars. A cheaper site you never finish costs more.

How to switch without losing customers

  1. Keep your domain. Transfer it or point it at your new site; never let it expire.
  2. Copy your content and download your images. Builders don't import from each other cleanly.
  3. List your most-visited pages and set up redirects on the new site.
  4. Go live, test, then cancel Wix.
  5. Update your Google Business Profile if your web address changes.

Straight answers

Is there a cheaper alternative to Wix?
Yes. As of October 2026, SiteNeuro Essential costs $39 a year and WordPress.com Personal $48 a year billed yearly, compared with about $213 a year for Wix Light billed yearly. Google Sites is free but basic.
What is the cheapest website builder with a custom domain?
Among these options, Google Sites is free with a domain you buy separately, followed by SiteNeuro Essential at $39 a year and WordPress.com Personal at $48 a year. Watch for intro prices that rise on renewal.
Is Wix's free plan good enough for a business?
It's fine for testing, but it shows Wix ads and uses a Wix address instead of your own domain, which looks less professional to customers.
Can I move my Wix site to another builder?
You can't transfer it automatically. You'll rebuild it on the new platform, copy your content, keep your domain and set up redirects for important pages.
Why are cheap website plans more expensive later?
Many builders advertise a low monthly price that requires paying for several years upfront, then renew at a higher rate. Always compare the renewal price and the total yearly cost.
